Barakat and Jacopo is a story with many lives. The characters were created and developed at Humber College over a span of several months before it was presented by Theatre Lab co-founders Omar Hady and Michael Orlando.

The piece was then crafted into a short story with more fully fleshed out characters and a deeper focus on the theme of master and servant. In 2009, an open dialogue with the ensemble was started, where proposals for actions, text and song were eventually shaped into a full performance. After the framework was set, the score for the show was created by Musical Director and composer David Atkinson, who would accompany each performance live, playing alongside the actors.
